Cumbrian ADI Appeal continues till Spring.
Ideas4ADIs are pleased to help support the Cumbrian ADI Appeal, which was organised by Terry Charnock of North West Federation of Driving Instructors.
Please give generously to this appeal for your fellow ADIs.
We have all felt the effects of the recent snowfall. But now the snow has gone, for most ADIs it's business as usual. However, business as usual is still a long way off for our colleagues in Cumbria after the devastation of the floods there at the end of last year. Nobody knows how long it will take to resuscitate these tiny communities, especially the hamlet of Cockermouth and the town of Workington, which nestles at the mouth of the River Derwent. Both towns lie in a remote corner of the North West of England which many people have never visited, and even more have never heard of.The appeal raised over £800 in the short period before Christmas. Mac McDade, Director of Ideas4ADIs Ltd, accompanied the organiser, Terry Charnock, to distribute the funds to those ADIs who have been affected. "Everyone was overjoyed, their expressions said it all. It was one of the best feelings of my life." said Terry. Our thanks again to everyone who has contributed so far.
The insurance companies, the government and the social services have sprung into action, along with a few big charities that provide for people in need, but it is a huge undertaking that will take time, and with continuing bad weather the 'clean-up job' is ongoing and the focus is on further damage limitation.
The driving instructors of Workington and Cockermouth are finding it extremely difficult to get from one pupil to the next. With the bridges down and some of the roads still closed off the traffic is all being diverted onto the few main roads there are. This means that what used to be a 10 minute journey can take 40 minutes or more. Even once the pupil has been picked up there is often no way of avoiding slow moving traffic flows. Due to the additional miles travelled to get to pupils after the collapse of the bridges, the amount of fuel used has at least tripled.
We can't provide work and jobs for them. We can't pay their mortgages and other things that need to be provided for - we don't have a magic wand - I wish we had. However, with your kindness, in the form of a small contribution, we can help them get through this difficult time.
Please give as much as you can afford to help our colleagues and friends in Cumbria.
We understand that money is tight due to the recession and the recent snow - these people have suffered these hardships also.
Let's not overlook them - let's make it happen.
Time is of the essence, so please make your contribution as soon as possible - thank you all.
